Stena Metal Inc. has rapidly become a major supplier of steel scrap. Working from the core expertise of the Stena Metall Group in metallic scrap, and handling significant quantities of exports shredded and cut grades, Stena Metal Inc. has developed a substantial trading business in steel scrap.

Ferrous Scrap

Pig iron

We trade in basic pig iron for steelmaking, as well as foundry and ductile pig iron for the castings industry. Most of our supply is from Brazil, which is the largest exporter of pig iron worldwide, with more than 4 million tons of exports annually

Steel products

We trade a wide variety of steel products. Semi-finished steels such as billets and slabs supplied to steel mills for rerolling, account for the largest share of our steel business

Hot briquetted iron (HBI)

Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) is a relatively new product, developed in the past 25 years, as a supplement for pig iron and scrap in electric furnace steel mills. It is a compacted form of direct reduced iron (DRI), which facilitates its handling, storage, and use.

From our headquarters in Southport, Connecticut in the USA, we trade internationally in, primarily, scrap metal and pig iron, as well as hot briquetted iron and finished steel products.
